With the downturn in the industry communities have felt the flow on effects with a lot of local businesses baring the brunt and financial cost. Small business owners that have built their businesses in and around mine workers are now faced with the uncertainty of not knowing if they will survive through the depletion of numbers of workers, in some areas by up to 80%. Cities across the nation have seen the growth times bring products and service to them that they may have never seen before but now find they have become part of the fabric of their cities. Coalworks.com.au asked the question of these businesses “how are they going to survive now the numbers are just not there?”

The answer is quite simply that they need to spread their reach further, think outside their immediate surrounding region and gather customers from further a field or they will not survive. But how?
